What we do

Palka Downton provides advice and assistance to employers on an ad hoc basis, through regular retainers or on specific projects. This enables employers, whatever their size, to have immediate access as and when it is needed to legal and commercial advice that would otherwise be dealt with by in-house human resources or legal advisors. The range of services is flexible, from advice on specific legal issues to full involvement in the human resources processes of a business.

Types of work:

  • TUPE and employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions;

  • Redundancy procedures;

  • Exit management and compromise agreements;

  • Disciplinary and grievance processes;

  • Issuing and defending employment tribunal claims;

  • Setting up consultative committees;

  • Advice to employees on all work-related issues;

  • Carrying out independent discrimination / harassment investigations;

  • Equal pay Job evaluations;

  • Managing business reorganisations / staff reductions;

  • Drafting and updating employment documentation;

  • Training on performance and absence issues;

  • High court litigation on restrictive covenants and breach of confidentiality;

  • Directors’ service contracts and director / shareholder disputes;

  • Distributorship, agency and self employed contractors’ agreements;

  • Apprenticeship agreements;

  • Human resources “health audits”

Fees

Services are normally charged on a time basis with fixed hourly rates on a “pay as you go” basis

However it is the firm’s policy to help clients to control and monitor fees and to tailor billing to individual requirements. The firm therefore offers alternative fee options such as:

  • Daily or weekly rates: suitable for special projects where services are needed exclusively for a certain period.

  • Fixed fees: where it is possible to define the scope of a particular project, we can agree a fixed fee.

  • Half or full day training rates which are less than those charged for legal work.

For individual clients, charges are flexible according to financial situations.

We aim to provide quotations on the same day as your initial enquiry or instruction.
